Having trained thousands of student divers at Manta Dive we believe that the best way to become a really good Dive Master is to experience how a dive centre operates on a day-to-day basis. Of course you still have to read the books, take the exams and practice the exercises but by actually helping the instructors and dive guides with real students and qualified divers you will gain experience and pick up a wealth of knowledge that you cannot learn from any manual.

If you are thinking of becoming an Open Water Scuba Instructor then this is the best possible way to prepare for it.

If you want to get a head start it is advisable to read all the theory before you arrive and answer all the knowledge reviews. The PADI Divemaster Manual, The Encyclopedia of Recreational Diving, and the Diving Knowledge Workbook are the books you need to buy if you want to do this.

Once you have completed the Dive Master Course we encourage all our candidates to stay for at least a few more weeks to get some experience and put all your freshly learned skills into practice. This invariably helps us out and apart from the experience gives you lots of free diving.

Course Outline

Knowledge Development
Covers the following topics: the roles & characteristics of a Divemaster, supervising general diving activities, assisting with student divers in training, dive theory introduction, physics of diving, physiology of diving, dive equipment, decompression theory & the RDP, dive master conducted programs, the business of diving & your diving career.

Assignments
You will prepare an emergency assistance plan detailing the proper procedures to follow in the event of a diving related accident (relevant to the local environment). You will also prepare a map of a local dive site offering useful information for those unfamiliar with the area such as entry/exit points, depths, topography, points of interest, etc.

Water skills & stamina
In this module, you will perfect your confined water skills(20 skills from the Open Water Course) to instructor demonstration level, improve your watermanship (swimming) ability & practice a rescue scenario.

Equipment Exchange
Also known as the ‘stress test’, the idea of this is to put you under a little added pressure while performing a task underwater. If we tell you anymore it’ll ruin the fun.

Dive Master Conducted Program
Towards the end of your course you will conduct a real student training session under the direct supervision of a PADI instructor.

Assisting student divers
The purpose of this is to enable you to work with real students on courses of all levels to help prevent, overcome, & assist with common problems they may encounter while learning to dive. You will act as an instructional assistant & your performance will be evaluated. In addition, we will also give you training in compressor operation, equipment repair & dive store sales - a very valuable asset to any perspective employer.

Bio Rock
We have recently taken part in a reef regeneration program. We have an artificial reef structure on our house reef directly in front of the Dive shop. During your Divemaster course you will get the opportunity to help maintain the structure and will learn all about it.

Course Time and Costs
We recommend a minimum of four weeks to complete the training, however, you can choose to do your Divemaster between four to eight weeks. During that time you have unlimited diving & you can do 3-4 dives per day, which will result in well over the required 75 dives by the end of the course.

Please note there is an additional fee for your PADI or SSI membership, payable directly to PADI or SSI once a year.
